Emotional & Stress Overload Relief

Have you ever experienced a time in your life when you were completely overwhelmed with emotion and stress?

What did you do?  Did you react with unhealthy behaviours: eating junk food, staying up too late to finish that one “extra job”, drink too much alcohol, forget to exercise, complain constantly, avoid time with family and/or slip into a depressive ‘survival mode’?

I have been there..my daughter just got married recently and I found myself slipping into a very stressed out mindset.  I was feeling unfocused and couldn’t complete one task at a time as I was overwhelmed with so many tasks at once.

I remembered by lifestyle coaching moto; “always keep in balance”.  Balance..what does this word mean to you?

How do you feel when you are out of balance – certainly more stressed I bet!  I took my own advice that I’ve been giving to clients for years and started to prioritize the tasks that needed to get completely by a certain timeline. Most important at the top of the list and working downward.  Everyday I made it a goal to accomplish 2-3 of the tasks and cross them off as I worked down the list.

I set up time in my agenda each day for myself for my own personal wellness.  First thing in the morning:  Meditation and Stretching 30 min. this way I knew I would start my day off in a more calm and balanced way.  Then I would have a healthy high Protein Smoothie for breakfast and then get my work day started.

I stopped multitasking and just focused on one activity at a time and noticed I was much more productive.   Every hour I would take a 10-15 minute break to go outside in the sunshine, have a snack, water and stretch a bit.  Throughout my working times I would stop to check my posture and make sure I was breathing deep and the breathe was reaching the upper chest area so I knew oxygen was getting to the brain. Drink lots of water and snack every 2-3 hours on a something small that contains protein.

Wow, my to do list started shrinking rapidly and yet I was feel balanced and calm.   Amazing how great this worked.
